Private orthodontic treatment

Private orthodontic treatment

Patients who choose to have their private orthodontic treatment with us do so for a variety of reasons:

  • Child/adolescent patients who score lowly on the IOTN scale and are ineligible for
    NHS treatment
  • Child/adolescent patients who do not want to join the NHS waiting list
  • Any adult patient who wishes to have orthodontic assessment/treatment
  • Any patient who wishes to have special treatments, such as Invisalign or tooth-
    coloured ceramic braces

In addition, private patients have greater flexibility in arranging appointments, and are allocated more contact time.

Treatment as an adult patient

In recent years we have seen an increasing number of adults in Sheffield seeking orthodontic treatment.

Some come by referral from their dentist, others contact The Orthodontic Clinic directly, having wanted to improve the appearance, functioning and oral hygiene of their teeth for years or motivated by a significant event in their life such as a wedding. After the braces are removed patients often go to their dentist for teeth whitening, to complete the new look.

Although adults are only treated privately, we find that patients are delighted with their decision to proceed with treatment when they see the results — There are very few investments we make the benefit of which will be appreciated every day by everyone who meets us.

Fees for private treatment

Initial assessment

  • Adult:£125
  • Under 18 years old: £75

This includes any X-rays, study models and photographs required for the diagnosis. Adult patients will attend two appointments and will receive a report confirming their diagnosis and outlining their treatment options and costs involved.

Course of treatment

This will vary from patient to patient, and will depend on:

  • The complexity of the case
  • The anticipated duration of treatment, which can be from nine months to two years
  • Any special requirements of the patient, such as tooth-coloured ceramic brackets
  • Or the Invisalign system of transparent removable braces

Generally, prices for a simple case are from £1500 for under-18s and £2,800 for adults.

Invisalign treatment is more expensive. For adults it will usually cost from £3,000 for mild cases and up to £4,500 for the Full Invisalign products. It is not usually recommended for younger patients, however there is now a Teen product offered by Invisalign.

Paying for private treatment

Patients pay an initial payment at the start of treatment- typically £600-£1,000 with conventional fixed braces or £2,200 with Invisalign. We will usually accept the remainder in instalments paid by standing order over the first 12-18 months of treatment.

We can accept the initial payment by credit card or debit card. Please note that there is a handling charge of 2% of the transaction value for payments by credit card.
